Whether to become a vegetarian might be something you have been thinking about for some time but do not really know if will change anything for you. You may ask yourself will it really make much difference in the scheme of things.
However, if enough individuals do stop, it becomes statistically more important to the health of animals on this planet. The primary reason for the change is the reduction of deaths caused by heart disease that is brought about by the huge consumption of meat.
Many of today’s heart conditions would not be so commonplace if people did not eat so much food with high levels of cholesterol, such as dairy products and eggs. In fact the group Earth Save states that a vegetarian has around 25 percent less chance of a heart attack than someone who consumes meat as part of their diet.
The risk of a heart attack for vegans is even lower with only a one in ten chance of having a heart attack against those of a person who eats meat. But these are not the only health benefits of choosing to be a vegetarian.
For instance, you won’t be exposed to nearly as many preservatives, which are common in meat and are linked to cancer. Of course vegetarians will not be exposed to the number of additional hormones that are fed to cattle as part of their feed and will not experience some of the hormone problems people have because of this.
A digestive problem, which many nutritional experts believe to be caused by intolerance to lactose, will also be avoided. The health advantages to becoming a vegetarian are unquestionable but there is also the fact that many animals will not lose their lives to feed you either.
According to veganoutreach.org, the average American consumes 2,714 land animals in their lifetime. It is a sobering thought that a change in diet could literally save hundreds of animals from being slaughtered over the course of a decade alone. Furthermore, by reducing your intake of dairy products and eggs, many hens and cows will have better living conditions.
It should be clear that it is better to become a vegetarian for most people. An improvement in your overall health with less chance of cancer or a heart condition and the reduction of animal deaths provide a compelling argument.
