Rings have been used by members of society from as far back as the medieval period when they were constructed simply using the materials which were easily available, namely iron, copper and silver. The better the ring you had the higher up the social ladder you belonged. These days the quality ring you wear indirectly signifies who much money you make, unless you choose to blow your household budget in aid of showing off income you don’t have. Others of course choose to wear cheap costume jewelry when they could afford much better. It seems that we have come to use jewelry and rings are art more than a symbol of our social standing.
