Fixing a Blender the Easy Way

One of the most useful appliances that you can have in your kitchen is the blender.  While other things like coffee makers only get used maybe once a day, the blender is truly universal.  You can use it to make smoothies in the morning, a refreshing icy drink in the afternoon, soup for dinner, and even a frosty margarita in the evening.  What other small kitchen appliance can compete with it?  The best part about blenders is that they are so inexpensive.  Cheap blenders can be had for as little as $20, while really high quality models made by reputable companies can cost $100 or so.  While blenders may be great, they do have their flaws.  A few small parts make up the blender, and these little things can break occasionally.  When this happens, it will render your blender useless.  Let’s take a look at one of the most common blender repairs.

If your blender is leaking all of a sudden, the first thing you should do is check the base that screws on to the jar.  Due to the vibrations of the blender, the base can sometimes unscrew a little all by itself, which can result in liquid seepage.  If the base seems like it is screwed on tight but it still leaks, the culprit is most likely the gasket.  Unscrew the base from the jar and take a look at the gasket – it is the small, round piece of rubber that fits between the blade and the base.  Some people lose this gasket when they disassemble the blender to clean it.  Without it, the blender will almost surely leak.  If you have it, check to see that it is in the right place.  It has to sit directly between the metal blade assembly and the base.  If you put it anywhere else, it probably won’t work.

After a while, these little gaskets can get worn out.  If this happens to you, don’t go out and buy a whole new blender!  While these little rubber pieces can be tough to find in stores, just do a search for “blender parts” on the internet and you will find what you need.
