Kayak Fishing Tips – Metallic Tape
There are a lot of kayak fishing tips that a veteran kayak angler can offer you, but by far, the best kayak fishing tip of all time has got to be the use of metallic duct tape. This stuff comes in all sorts of colors and sizes, and makes for a fantastic way to reflect light back at other boaters and jet skiers while you are out fishing. The bright light is magnified, and is extremely visible from a very far distance, and gives the other boat operators time to adjust their path relative to your position.
There are three colors that I personally love to use, and for very good reasons. I have to have yellow metallic school bus tape on every kayak I own. I put it along side the boat, near the water line. This helps to reflect the sun back up at the other boaters at an angle, and gives me what I believe is a 3rd color to help alert them that I am there. This is above all the most important part of kayak fishing around other boaters; being recognized.
Another color that I love to use on my boats is metallic silver. I will wrap anything that sticks up off the kayak with the silver tape, so that boaters get a second color to see me. The silver reflects a really bright light that boaters can see from any direction. If the sun is in their eyes, silver will outshine even the brightest day, alerting them to your presence and giving them time to adjust their coordinates.
The last color that I have to have is bright metallic orange. I will take a piece of orange cloth or fabric, and line the outside edges with the orange duct tape. Put this onto a 3 foot long piece of PVC or other material, and use it as a reflective flag. The constant waving, as well as reflecting orange light will alert them of your presence, guarantee. Being visible is the best kayak fishing tip that anyone can offer for you, and one that you should follow at all costs.
