Mirdles: New Type of Underwear for Men
Language is constantly reinventing itself. Instead of compound words like lunchbox, we get things words mashed together like “mirdles”. However, in some weird way, the message does come across that we’re talking about men’s girdles. Perhaps the reason why we’re reinventing words is because we’re afraid of the negative connotation.
There is no doubt that some men would object to wearing girdles for men just based on the fact that girdles are normally associated with women’s undergarments. Even in the twenty first century, some men are still touchy about their masculinity. This is why the marketing geniuses that be decided to introduce men’s girdles as mirdles or compression underwear to avoid the g-word.
However, prejudices aside, girdles for men are a great idea. Let’s face it, women aren’t the only ones that have body issues. Men get bulging stomachs and love handles too. Perhaps it’s only now that they started caring what they look like with the emergence of a new breed of men: the metrosexuals.
Metrosexuals are generally younger men who take a lot of pride in their appearance and grooming habits. With these young men leading the charge, even the older gentlemen are taking cues from the younger generation to get their act together. This is not to say they need to show up for work in the latest skinny suit. However, they should look fit and trim in their traditional suits. And a girdle can help a man achieve a trimmer waistline by flattening stomachs.
With men clearly taking more care in what they look like, perhaps now girdles will appear in more underwear drawers along with the boxers and briefs. However, just don’t call them girdles: it’s mirdles or compression underwear. Whatever they are called, there’s no doubt that they make men young and old look great.
