What is Wavefront Lasik?

If you are pondering the decision of whether or not to have eye surgery for a refractive vision problem, you may be surprised to learn that there is a new form of Lasik currently available.  This variant is called Wave front Lasik.  Since it is so full of promise, we are going to spend the next few minutes discussing a few aspects of it.

First, let’s explain what Wave front Lasik is.  During the surgery, a surgeon will create a three dimensional map of a patient’s eye.  This is accomplished by the Lasik machine sending light beams into the patient’s eye and collecting the reflection that bounces off of the patient’s retina.  Once the computer has this information, it creates an unbelievably accurate map of the patient’s eye that shows all of the abnormalities (many of which are often missed by experienced eye surgeons).

Once the surgeon reviews the image, he or she inputs some calculations into the machine.  At this point, the eye surgeon then begins the actual operation.

Due to the individualized vision correction a patient receives during this procedure, the rate of success for improving a patient’s vision to 20/20 is hovering around ninety five percent.

As can be expected, a person who wishes to undergo this form of Lasik will have to pay a little more.  Generally, a patient can expect to pay approximately ten percent more for Wave front Lasik (than when compared with traditional Lasik).

Of course, we believe that it is a small cost to pay when the odds of a successful eye surgery surge from eighty percent to around ninety five percent.

In conclusion, we believe Wave front Lasik is going to be the premier Lasik surgery in the near future.  Due to its ability to provide individualized eye treatment, there doesn’t appear to be any other contenders on the horizon.
