Pagglait Review: Netflix hidden ace of 2021

Pagglait Review: Pagglait was released alongside two more high-profile movies yesterday and it won’t be wrong to say that it was the best of the three. Pagglait was released alongside Ok Computer and Silence…Can you hear it?

Pagglait was a very anticipated movie because of the trailer and the cast and man it didn’t disappoint even a single bit.

I was very skeptical of the movie at first because Netflix India isn’t producing any good content for quite a long time now. But, Pagglait is absolutely outstanding movie. It hits all the right spots and will tie you up from the start to the end.

I always have a soft spot for female empowered movies. Movies like Pink, Thappad, and now Pagglait are the true definition of Female empowerment. A movie on this issue was long-due. Bollywood has made movies on lots and lots of societal cultures, but a movie on the life of a widow is a rare sight to see.

Pagglait Plot | Pagglait Story

The story of Pagglait revolved around a girl who gets married to a very orthodox Hindu family. And just after 5 months of the marriage, her husband dies. Now the main story starts right from the day her husband dies to his thirteenth ceremony.

You will realize how well this movie is written in the first few minutes only. It is one of the most thought-out movies I have seen in a while. There were so many scenes that will remind you of that.

The character development of Sanya Malhotra is one of the best things you will ever see in Indian cinema. For the first half an hour or so, you will think that she is not able to process anything that is happening around her.

But as the movie unfolds you will realize that she was processing everything but in an unorthodox way. Another character that was so well written was Ashutosh Rana. He played the role of the dead’s father and some of his scenes might make you emotional.

Another thing that this movie covered was the decision-making process in an orthodox small family. You will see how a girl’s consent doesn’t matter in any case. There were so many other issues that this movie showed light on.

I will not blabber about every single issue here, but it has been done brilliantly. Even after so many sub-plots, there wasn’t a single moment where it felt like that movie was getting slow or something.

Pagglait Cast

Pagglait Review: The movie has Sanya Malhotra as the main lead. She played the role of Sandhya. Other cast members are Ashutosh Rana, Sayani Gupta, Aasif Khan, Shruti Sharma, Rajesh Tailang, Nakul Roshan Sahdev, Meghna Malik, and Sheeba Chaddha.

If we are talking about the cast then every single cast member did an amazing job. Specially Ashutosh Rana was so brilliant that he made me feel things that I was supposed to feel. His acting is so raw and authentic that it will definitely make you emotional.

He delivered the role so maturely and sensitively that it really hits you. I will be surprised if he doesn’t get nominated for any kind of award for this performance. Sanya Malhotra also did a pretty commendable job. She got the gist of the character from the first scene and didn’t let it go till the end. Both of these performances made this movie 100X better.

The movie is directed and written by Umesh Bist and I am applauding him while standing. Ekta Kapoor produced this movie and I was surprised by it. Rafey Mehmood handled the cinematography of the movie and the music was done by Sumana Banerjee.
